Bryant University and Rhode Island delegation visit GFA over World Cup base camp partnership

Representatives from Bryant University and the State of Rhode Island paid an official visit to the Ghana Football Association on Monday as part of ongoing preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The visit focused on strengthening collaboration following Ghana’s decision to base the Black Stars in Rhode Island, where Bryant University will serve as the team’s official training camp during the tournament.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders from both sides to explore long-term partnerships beyond football, with discussions centred on investment, education and diaspora relations.

The partnership was initially formalised in February when Lady Dentaa Amoateng visited the Bryant University campus. It forms part of a broader initiative led by GUBA to deepen ties between Ghana and its diaspora while creating opportunities across multiple sectors.

As part of the visit, GUBA organised a high-level networking reception, connecting the Rhode Island delegation with Ghanaian institutions and corporate leaders, including MTN Ghana and the National Sports Authority.

Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, described the partnership as strategic, noting that Bryant University offers a strong environment for the Black Stars’ preparations.

Officials from Bryant University also highlighted the significance of the collaboration, revealing that the institution was selected by FIFA before being chosen by Ghana as its base camp.

Ghana will use the university’s modern training, recovery and wellness facilities as part of preparations for its fifth World Cup appearance.

Black Stars will face Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, and Croatia on June 27, 2026, in Philadelphia. This challenging group also includes a match against England on June 23 in Boston.
