The Attorney-General has discontinued the GH¢78 million criminal case against former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, leading to their discharge by the court.

The decision was announced on Tuesday, May 5, by Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai, who informed the court that the prosecution was withdrawing charges against the two.

The couple, who had earlier pleaded not guilty, were subsequently cleared after the court struck out the charges.

The Attorney-General’s Department attributed the decision to the emergence of fresh evidence, insisting the move was necessary to ensure a fair and expeditious trial process.

The case stems from alleged financial loss to the state estimated at GH¢78 million in connection with the procurement and supply of food items under the school feeding programme.

However, the withdrawal of charges against the former Buffer Stock boss and his wife shifts the spotlight onto the remaining accused persons and raises fresh questions about the prosecution’s case.

Earlier proceedings were marked by legal wrangling after prosecutors filed new witness statements in April 2026 but later attempted to rely on earlier filings from December 2025.

The trial was further complicated by objections from defence lawyers over the role of an officer from the Economic and Organised Crime Office in the prosecution team.

The court subsequently ordered the officer’s temporary removal and directed the Attorney-General’s Department to justify the officer’s involvement in line with legal requirements.

Proceedings are expected to continue against the remaining defendants as the prosecution reassesses its case following the withdrawal.
