Panama captain Anibal Godoy has expressed his determination ahead of his country's opening Group L encounter against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting he is ready to give his all for the national team.

The experienced midfielder is expected to play a key role as Panama begins their campaign against the Black Stars on Wednesday, June 17, in a match that could prove crucial to both teams' hopes of progressing from the group.

Speaking before the highly anticipated clash, Godoy stressed the importance of maintaining focus and approaching the tournament one game at a time.

"We're going to be doing it match per match, and I'm going to be giving the very best that I can," the midfielder said.

Godoy also made it clear that Panama have not travelled to the World Cup merely to participate. He insists that the team is eager to make a lasting impression on the global stage.

"We are here to compete. Not only are we going to be competing, we are driven because we want more," Godoy told reporters via a translator in Toronto.

The Group L fixture between Ghana and Panama is scheduled to kick off at 23:00 GMT on Wednesday, June 17.

The Central Americans will be searching for their first-ever World Cup victory when they face the Black Stars.
