The Ghana Police Service has moved swiftly to contain rising tensions in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region following recent violent clashes that left three persons dead.

The Oti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Acquah, on 26 March 2026, led a joint security delegation to the troubled area in what authorities describe as a decisive intervention to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed.

Addressing police personnel on the ground, DCOP Acquah charged officers to remain alert and demonstrate the highest level of discipline and professionalism as the situation continues to evolve.

In a show of force and reassurance, the Regional Commander, accompanied by officers from the military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and Defence Intelligence, proceeded to the Zongo community—one of the areas affected by the violence—where they engaged the Zongo Chief, Alhaji Issaka Kayaba, and community elders.

The delegation delivered condolences on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board (POMAB) to families of the three adult males who lost their lives in the attacks, signalling the state’s concern over the deteriorating security situation.

In a measured response, the Zongo Chief assured the security team of the community’s commitment to peace, stressing that residents would not resort to retaliation despite the heightened tensions.

The police commander also inspected the scene of a previous arson attack at Dadaga, where two persons were killed, as part of efforts to assess the scale of destruction and guide further security responses.

The Regional Police Command is maintaining a tight watch over developments and has ramped up collaboration with other security agencies to avert any escalation.

Residents have been cautioned to remain law-abiding and to desist from spreading unverified information capable of inflaming passions.

The police have further urged restraint across all factions as efforts intensify to restore stability in the area.
