President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised his administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic governance and deepening constitutional reforms during a Presidential Dialogue with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) held at the Jubilee House.

President Mahama said the engagement was central to promoting inclusive, participatory, and accountable governance in Ghana, noting that CSOs play a critical role in democratic development through advocacy, research, and community outreach.

He highlighted that government cannot deliver national transformation alone, saying collective action with civil society, citizen groups, and other stakeholders is necessary to address the country’s complex governance challenges.

“We need to bring everyone on board — government, civil society, and the broader public — to ensure our democratic institutions remain strong and responsive,” President Mahama told the gathering.

The President said his government is examining recommendations from the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) — which submitted its final report after almost a year of nationwide public consultations — and will soon announce the formation of a Constitutional Review Implementation Committee (CRIC) to steer the next phase of the reform process.

The CRC’s work, which drew on more than 500 submissions from stakeholders across the country including CSOs, professional bodies and ordinary citizens, aims to propose amendments to the 1992 Constitution to better align Ghana’s governance framework with evolving democratic and socio‑economic needs.

President Mahama stressed that transparency and accountability remain central to his government’s agenda, pointing to ongoing legislative efforts such as the Public Officers’ Code of Conduct Bill before Parliament, which he said will strengthen ethical standards and integrity in public office.

He assured CSOs of continued engagement and dialogue as the constitutional reform process unfolds, saying their oversight and advocacy are vital to ensuring that governance reforms reflect the interests of all Ghanaians.

Civil society platforms, including coalitions that have urged government to adopt an “inclusive and transparent” reform approach, welcomed the renewed engagement and reiterated the importance of broad participation in shaping the future of Ghana’s constitutional order.
