World Cup 2026: England striker Kane equals Lineker's record ahead of Ghana clash

Harry Kane has drawn level with Gary Lineker as England's all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup finals, netting his 10th goal in the competition during England's Group L opener against Croatia.

The 32-year-old captain's strike moved him alongside Lineker at the summit of England's World Cup scoring charts. The record-equalling goal came as England secured a 2-0 victory over Croatia in Boston, with Kane also providing an assist.

Kane now has the opportunity to claim the record outright when England face Ghana on June 23 in Boston. The Bayern striker, who has been in prolific form, will be eager to make history against the Black Stars in what promises to be a high-stakes Group L encounter.

Ghana, who are seeking their first win of the tournament after their opening match against Panama, will be well aware of the threat Kane poses. The Black Stars' defence will have their work cut out for them containing the England captain, who has been in red-hot form.

Kane is not the only current England player climbing the all-time list. Marcus Rashford scored his fourth World Cup goal in the tournament, moving him level with Michael Owen and Bobby Charlton. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Jude Bellingham continues his rapid rise, scoring his second World Cup goal to join the growing list of current Three Lions contributors.

The Three Lions will now turn their attention to Ghana on June 23, followed by their final group match against Panama on June 27.

For Ghana, stopping Kane will be priority number one when the two sides meet in Boston.
