The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has stepped up its public safety and consumer protection campaign during the 2026 Kwahu Easter festivities, combining targeted education with support for local enterprise initiatives.

The Authority’s outreach formed part of activities across major event centres, including the Kwahu Business Forum, the Kwahu Food Village at Mpraeso, as well as Abetifi, Nkwatia and the Chicken Festival Village under the Nkoko Nketenkete, now Nkoko Akɛseɛ initiative.

The exercise received strong backing from the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu South, Effah Osei Bonsu, who described the intervention as timely in promoting local enterprise and strengthening Ghana’s poultry industry.

He commended the National Broiler Secretariat and the Municipal Assembly for creating a platform that highlights the importance of the local poultry value chain, while urging the NPA to expand its advocacy to include the promotion of Nkoko Akɛseɛ and clean cooking practices under the “Cook it Right” campaign.

Mr Osei Bonsu also praised the Chief Executive of the NPA, Godwin Kudzo Edudzi Tameklo, for the Authority’s continued partnership and support.

As part of its regulatory mandate, the NPA carried out extensive public sensitisation on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) safety, consumer rights, and complaint resolution mechanisms, while drawing attention to the dangers of fuel siphoning and the need to prioritise fuel quality over quantity.

Patrons, food vendors and other stakeholders were taken through practical demonstrations on the safe handling and use of petroleum products, particularly during large gatherings.

Leading the NPA delegation was the Director of Consumer Services, Eunice Budu-Nyarko, who reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to protecting lives and property through sustained public education.

“We remain committed to ensuring safety, especially during major national events where the use of petroleum products is high,” she indicated.

Adding to the discussion, the National Coordinator of the National Broiler Project Directorate under the Office of the Minister of State for Special Initiatives, Kelvin Ocran, underscored the importance of energy—particularly LPG—in the poultry value chain.

He noted that efficient and hygienic preparation of chicken and other foods depends heavily on access to safe and reliable cooking energy.

“Cooking it right is essential,” he stated, explaining that LPG improves efficiency for food vendors, promotes hygiene, reduces reliance on charcoal and firewood, and contributes to better public health outcomes.

Mr Ocran, while thanking the NPA for its continued support, emphasised that as demand for locally produced chicken grows, ensuring safe and adequate LPG supply will be critical to sustaining the industry.

The NPA’s activities at Kwahu Easter highlight a coordinated approach to national development—linking consumer safety, energy access, market education and support for local industry—while reinforcing its regulatory oversight role.
