The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has intensified efforts to expand public understanding of its mandate by engaging Regional Ministers across the country ahead of a nationwide stakeholder outreach campaign aimed at improving access to specialised healthcare support.

The high-level engagement, held at the Jubilee House, brought together the Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, the Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, Regional Ministers and the Administrator of GMTF, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration with regional leadership to ensure widespread public awareness of the Fund’s objectives and how eligible beneficiaries can access its support.

Officials emphasised that regional coordination would be central to the success of the initiative, given the need to reach communities at the grassroots level with accurate information about the Fund’s operations.

Addressing the gathering, the Administrator of GMTF called on Regional Ministers to take an active role in championing the initiative within their jurisdictions by engaging traditional authorities, faith-based organisations, health professionals, civil society groups, the media and local communities.

She stressed that sustained public education would be critical in ensuring that no eligible Ghanaian is left unaware of the Fund’s support mechanisms.

The Regional Ministers, in response, pledged their commitment to supporting the rollout of the programme across all 16 regions, describing it as a vital intervention in strengthening equitable access to specialised healthcare services.

They assured the Fund of their readiness to mobilise local structures and support communication efforts aimed at deepening public engagement and trust.

The GMTF noted that the upcoming nationwide regional engagements will form a key part of its rollout strategy as it seeks to bridge information gaps and enhance access to life-saving medical interventions.

The initiative reflects a broader commitment to building a more inclusive healthcare system where financial constraints do not prevent citizens from receiving critical treatment.
