Ghana has taken part in the opening ceremony of the 26th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-26) in Ankara, Turkey, as the country intensifies efforts to strengthen digital innovation, regulatory cooperation and technology-driven development.

The Ghanaian delegation, led by the Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, joined regulators, policymakers, industry leaders and technology experts from across the world at the high-level gathering.

The symposium brings together global stakeholders to deliberate on key issues shaping the digital ecosystem, including artificial intelligence governance, spectrum management, digital inclusion and cross-border data regulation.

Speaking on the sidelines of the opening session, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to advancing inclusive digital transformation and building a regulatory environment that supports innovation and economic growth.

He said Ghana is prioritising the expansion of digital infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity systems and creating enabling conditions for startups and digital service providers to thrive.

The GSR-26 platform is expected to provide opportunities for participating countries to exchange ideas, align regulatory approaches and share best practices on emerging technologies.

Ghana’s participation forms part of its broader Digital Ghana Agenda, which seeks to leverage technology to improve service delivery in education, healthcare, agriculture and public administration.

The delegation is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the symposium to explore partnerships and investment opportunities in the country’s digital sector.

The symposium will continue over the coming days with policy discussions, technical workshops and high-level dialogues focused on the future of global digital regulation.

Institutions accompanying Ghana’s participation include the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, the National Communications Authority, the National Information Technology Agency and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, alongside the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations and telecom operator MTN Ghana.
