Ayew and Issahaku look to World Cup to secure moves after Leicester relegation

Leicester City’s confirmation of relegation to League One has cast serious doubt over the future of their Ghanaian duo, Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

With the club sliding into the third tier for the first time since 2009, both players are expected to seek moves away, and the upcoming 2026 World Cup could provide the perfect platform to attract suitors.

Jordan Ayew, the veteran forward, is in the final months of his contract, which expires on June 30. A free transfer is almost certain, as Leicester will struggle to keep a player of his experience in League One.

For the 34-year-old, this summer represents a final chance to secure a move to a top-flight club, possibly in England or abroad. A strong showing at the World Cup in North America would remind clubs of his work rate, hold-up play, and penalty-box intelligence.

Fatawu Issahaku, at 22, is in a different situation. He remains under contract until 2029, but Leicester’s collapse has already sparked transfer speculation. Several clubs, including Fulham, Aston Villa, and Villarreal, have been linked with the pacy winger. This season in the Championship, he has scored nine goals and provided seven assists, proving he is far too good for the third division.

A dazzling performance on the world stage could push his price tag even higher and force a bidding war.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. Their opening match is against Panama on June 17.

For both Ayew and Issahaku, every minute on the pitch will be an audition. The World Cup has a habit of launching careers and reviving others. If Ghana can impress, their two attackers may well secure the moves they desperately need to keep playing at the highest level.
