United States Secret Service officers arrested an armed man near the White House after he allegedly threatened to kill President Donald Trump, the Department of Homeland Security announced.

According to a Department of Homeland Security statement issued on Friday, November 6, officers detained the suspect on Thursday evening, November 5, on Constitution Avenue, south of the White House, after noticing his behaviour in a parked car.

Authorities identified the suspect as Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, a Venezuelan national who the department said entered and remained in the United States unlawfully, and said the car had been reported stolen.

During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers allegedly recovered three firearms, including an AR-15-style rifle, a MAC-10 firearm and a Glock 43X pistol, alongside dozens of rounds of ammunition, according to federal officials.

The department stated that the suspect allegedly told arresting officers that voices in his head had instructed him to travel to Washington and kill President Trump.

The arrest took place outside the heavily fortified White House perimeter, where security barriers have been expanded and where Secret Service agents fatally shot an armed 21-year-old suspect outside the complex earlier this year in May.
