World Cup 2026: Carlos Queiroz issues rallying cry to Ghana fans ahead of Panama clash

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has issued a passionate rallying cry to Ghana fans, urging them to create an intimidating atmosphere for their must-win Group L match against Panama.

Acknowledging the difficult task ahead, Queiroz did not sugarcoat the pressure facing his team. He made it clear that the squad understands the high stakes of the upcoming game.

"We know where we are; we know the size of the mountain that we have in front of us that we have to climb," Queiroz said.

"But in the stadium, to be honest with you, I expect better. I expect that our fans will even do it better because we need the player number 12. We know that the fans from the other team will also be supporting."

"I hope that during the game, the drums of Ghana, there will be 90 minutes in our hearts to accelerate the beat of our hearts."

Ghana open their World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, at BMO Field in Toronto. The match is crucial for the Black Stars' hopes of advancing from a challenging group that also includes England and Croatia.

Queiroz's call for support comes as the team faces uncertainty over Thomas Partey's availability for the opener after the midfielder was denied entry to Canada. Ghana will also be without the suspended Jordan Ayew, with Alexander Djiku serving as stand-in captain for the match.

With Panama's travelling supporters expected to turn up in large numbers, the battle in the stands could be just as fierce as the one on the pitch. For Queiroz and the Black Stars, the equation is simple: conquer the mountain together or see their tournament dreams slip away.
