Government has held a Community Dialogue on Social Protection in the Krowor Municipality as part of efforts to bring social intervention services closer to residents.

The programme, organised by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in collaboration with the Krowor Municipal Assembly, was held at the Nungua Traditional Authority.

It was aimed at educating residents on government social protection programmes and raising awareness on social issues affecting communities.

Topics discussed included domestic violence, child labour, child trafficking, teenage pregnancy, mental health, illicit drug abuse and child protection.

Participants were also sensitised on referral pathways for victims of abuse and violence, as well as the use of child protection toolkits.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said social protection is an investment in human dignity, social stability and national development.

She said the programme is aimed at bringing government services closer to the people and ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind.

She also noted government’s commitment to strengthening interventions including the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Programme, support for Persons with Disabilities and child protection services.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Krowor, Ing. Paul Afotey Quaye, stressed the importance of community participation, collaboration with traditional authorities and access to information in improving livelihoods.

As part of the outreach, free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal services were provided for residents, while sanitary pads were distributed to schoolgirls.

The event brought together traditional authorities, assembly members, community leaders, departmental heads, youth groups and residents within the municipality.

Participants commended the initiative and called for sustained community engagements to address social challenges and improve access to government support services.
