The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has stepped up its nationwide consumer education drive with intensified petroleum safety campaigns across parts of the Volta and Ashanti Regions.

The outreach forms part of ongoing efforts by the Authority to improve public awareness on safe fuel handling, consumer protection and compliance within the downstream petroleum sector.

The campaign, led by the NPA’s Consumer Services Directorate, engaged traders, transport operators, women’s groups and students in selected markets, transport terminals and tertiary institutions.

Key areas of focus included petroleum safety practices, fuel quality assurance, proper liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) handling, consumer rights, complaint reporting procedures, as well as the risks associated with fuel siphoning from accident scenes involving Bulk Road Vehicles.

During the engagements, the Director of Consumer Services, Eunice Budu-Nyarko, cautioned motorists and fuel consumers to exercise vigilance at fuel stations by verifying the type of fuel being dispensed, observing pump meter readings and insisting on receipts after transactions.

In the Volta Region, the campaign covered the Ho Market and Lorry Park, the Ho Technical University, the Ho Nursing Training College, as well as women’s groups in Hohoe.

In the Ashanti Region, sensitisation activities were held at the Bantama Market, Fomena Nursing Training College, Kumasi Technical University, and the Tepa Nursing and Midwifery Training College (Anyinasuo Campus).

Technical sessions were delivered by Ing. Johnson Gbagbo Jnr., Head of Consumer Data Analytics and Market Intelligence, and Maureen Adwoa Duori, Head of Consumer Education and Stakeholder Engagement, with support from NPA regional managers and other staff.
