Ghana and Jamaica have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, as senior officials met in Accra for the 3rd Session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC).

The Senior Officials Meeting, held on May 25, 2026, brought together delegations from both countries as part of efforts to deepen structured engagement and review progress in existing areas of cooperation.

The meeting was co-chaired by Ghana’s Coordinating Director for Political and Economic Affairs, Ambassador Harold Adlai Agyeman, and Jamaica’s Under-Secretary for Bilateral, Regional and Hemispheric Affairs, Ambassador Symone Betton Nayo.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Agyeman highlighted the longstanding ancestral, cultural and historical ties between Ghana and Jamaica, noting that relations between the two countries continue to reflect shared heritage and identity.

He said initiatives such as the Black Star Experience and the Year of Return have strengthened cultural exchanges and deepened people-to-people relations between the two countries.

He added that the reconvening of the PJCC provides an opportunity for both sides to further consolidate cooperation and advance issues of mutual interest.

Ambassador Agyeman also referenced the Visa Waiver Agreement signed in 2019, describing it as an important step in facilitating movement and closer interaction between citizens of Ghana and Jamaica.

He further encouraged increased collaboration between the private sectors of both countries to support economic growth and development.

On her part, Ambassador Nayo noted that diplomatic relations between Ghana and Jamaica, established in 1958, continue to evolve with renewed commitment from both sides to deepen cooperation.

She said the reconvening of the PJCC reflects shared resolve to strengthen relations based on mutual respect, cultural heritage and democratic values.

The two delegations held discussions on a range of issues, including trade, culture, political and legal affairs, social and humanitarian cooperation, and security collaboration.
