President Mahama cut the sod in April for a link between Accra airport's two terminals. The minister says construction has reached a fifth of the work.

The concourse that will link Terminals 2 and 3 at Accra airport is 20 per cent complete, Minister of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu said on Saturday.

"Recall the Concourse linking Terminals 2 and 3 at the Accra International Airport that President Mahama cut sod for a few months ago? It is already at 20% completion," he wrote on X.

President John Dramani Mahama cut the sod on Monday, April 27. He said the airport still lacked a secure, efficient way for passengers to move between the two terminals, and that transit space was limited.

Traffic had risen from 1.8 million passengers in 2022 to 2.5 million in 2025, he said. Congestion between 6pm and 10pm was already slowing check-in, immigration, security screening, boarding and baggage handling.

Through the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Airports Company Limited, the government is also refitting Terminal 2 so it can take domestic and international flights, and so some airlines can move off Terminal 3.

Kwakye Ofosu had published the concourse design on April 3, before the sod-cutting. He listed five passenger boarding bridges, five holding areas, travelators in both directions, five escalators and lifts, one VIP lounge, four business lounges and four duty-free pods.

He said then that Ghana Airports Company Limited would start the work that month, to ease congestion.

The concourse is not the Terminal 2 renovation. Managing director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare told Parliament on August 4 that the separate US$15 million refurbishment should be finished by December, so the older terminal can handle both domestic and international passengers.

Kwakye Ofosu's Saturday post gives the share of work done. It does not give a contract sum, a contractor or a date for opening the link.
